While people are used to installing operating systems from optical drives, Etcher will help you to easily burn OS images on either SD cards or USB flash drives. The software makes it easy for even novices to successfully complete the process without the risk of damaging your drive.

Program Features and Functions

You will basically burn OS images in three simple steps:

  • Specify the image that you want to burn
  • Select the drive where you want to burn it
  • Launch the burning process

When specifying the OS image to burn, you can choose among ISO, IMG and ZIP files. If you have only one SD card or flash drive connected to your computer, then the program will automatically choose it. If you have multiple drives connected, then you will select the one you want to use.

Etcher includes a handy feature whereby it does not list your computer's hard drives. Since you will not risk selecting your hard drive, there is no risk of wiping your data and ruining your system.

The program validates the card that you want to use to avoid using corrupted cards that will fail to work. The "Settings" option lets you choose whether or not you want to enable error reporting and auto-unmounting after successfully burning an image.

When the program completes the burning process, it gives you the opportunity to either burn the same image on another card or load a different image for burning.

Conclusion

Etcher is a special program that simplifies the process of writing images on flash drives and SD cards. Novices do not have to worry about causing possible damage while configuring options. It does most of the required operations automatically, and you only need to complete three easy steps while it does the rest.

Software Product Description

Burn images to flash drives and SD cards.

Pros: Gives a checksum so you know your iso got burned correctly. Cross-patform: Linux, Mac, Windows. Easy to use

Cons: There are other apps which burn multiple isos to a flash drive but etcher won't (as far as I can tell).

Other Thoughts: None
